Lorin's workmanship on this aircraft is outstanding. He took the Grand Champion Homebuilt award at the Bartlesville Bi-Plane expo in May, 2000. His center instrument cluster is mounted on a brass plate with a piece of small copper tubing layed around the outer edge. Lorin mentioned that this piece was 38" long, and cutting the small slit along the whole length with a dremel tool turned out to be quite a chore! But the results were well worth the effort.
The Hatz has a wingspan of 26' with an empty weight of 1200 lbs, and a gross weight of 1800 lbs. Normal cruise is around 100 mph indicated at a fuel burn of 7 gph. The main fuel tank holds 21 gallons, with another 7 gallons located in the aux tank.
