The membership of Tulsa's EAA Chapter 10 were given an excellent show and tell by Lorin & Mary Wilkinson. Lorin had his beautiful LOM powered Hatz XB-II biplane on display in the Chapter Hangar.

Chapter President Bhrent Waddell opened the meeting with a reminder about our upcoming "Work" day on Saturday, April 28th. He also wanted to point out that our May meeting coincides with the Chapter picnic on Sunday, May 20th.
Roger White mentioned that since "Aero-Spares" had closed, Aircraft Specialties had begun stocking a lot of small hardware, accessories, and charts. They are very reasonable on the price and have quite a selection of hardware. Stop by and window shop some time, their located on North Sheridan.
A builder award was presented to John Nye for the recent completion of his RV-8A.
Lorin's biplane was completed in November of 1999, and he flew it all the way from Yelm, Washington to Tulsa in May of 2000. The aircraft was built over a seven year time span, with a couple of years off for good behavior. The original Hatz was designed in 1959. One of the unique things about Lorin's, is it's LOM powerplant.
The engine is a 4-stroke, 4 cylinder inline inverted engine, model M332B. It incorporates a low pressure direct port fuel injection system, with a centrifugal supercharger! Dual magnetos are fitted with complete dual spark plugs. The engine develops 160 hp at 3000 rpm, with a 5 minute duration, and 150 hp continuous. Converting that horsepower to thrust is a ground adjustable prop, also manufactured by LOM.
Because the thrustline of this engine is 4 inches higher than a horizontally opposed engine, Lorin raised the location of the top wing by 3" to balance out the "downward" pitching moment caused by the higher thrustline. He says he must've got it right, because she flies straight and true, hands off. Another change he incorporated was lengthening the main gear by 3".
